We are launching a new feature allowing to link your wittyblog to your Blogger blog. Once linked, posts added to Blogger will be automagically copied to your wittyblog on a regular basis. Now you are wondering why you need 2 copies of your blog. Here are few compelling reasons:

1) If an alien nation attacks Google and destroy their servers, your blog survives at Wittygraphy. Keep reading now that you are really scared

Badge for Contests

For those of you who snagged a medal in a contest, we now have a badge to brag about it on your other websites. Go back to the contest, you will see a piece of javascript code to insert on your other websites to render a badge as show below it. The width of this badge adjusts to the size of its container on your page.

New Version of Wittygraphy

We just turned on the new version of Wittygraphy. There are many subtle changes across the site to improve the usability. But we also added some major features:

Discussion board: we have outgrown the Shoutbox and it's being folded into a full discussion board (forum) style.

Personalized homepage: we wanted you to feel your profile section is your own thus we enable the following:

change the colors of your profile section
upload your own picture as the top masthead (banner)
Wittygraphy's main navigation system has moved to sliding task-bar on the right side to make your personal style more dominant

Search: unified to search for all items and higher quality results

But more importantly, in this version, we rewrote a large portion of the website using new web components allowing to build new features quicker. Stay tuned as we have many new exciting enhancements coming up shortly.

5000 caricatures

Earlier this morning, Zed from Croatia shared the 5000th caricature. Thank you Zed. It feels like you all never took a break and kept posting non-stop.

About the same time last year, we launched Wittygraphy for testing with some of your friends and opened it to the public just before Christmas. We invited few caricaturists to join and by January we had Kid Cardona, Rhoda Grossman, Hans Deconinck, Will Appledorn, Matt Ryder, Joaquin Aldeguer, and a dozen of others jump-starting things on Wittygraphy. The rest is history. What a difference a year makes. It's amazing to now see 5000 fine caricatures on the website. Thank you all for making this a thriving community. Can't wait to see the next 5000 fine caricatures. Let's keep the fun going.

Today, Tony Mac posted the 4000th caricature to Wittygraphy. We did it again: 1000 in 5 weeks. Seeing so many beautiful caricatures in one place is such an amazing experience for us. We'd like to thank everyone for their support and for making Wittygraphy a really fun place to hang out.

2000 Caricatures

Earlier today Layron DeJarnette posted the 2000th caricature. Coincidentally it's a caricature of Bill Crosby. That is one of my favorite celebrities done by one of my favorite caricaturists. It's such a great feeling to see the caricaturists community coming together on Wittygraphy and we feel very priviledged to host the largest gallery of caricatures. We now have caricatures of beginners coming here for inspiration to some of the top names in the field.

Just about 2 months ago, we had 1000 caricatures. That's an amazing number of caricatures contributed by the community in such a short period. We would like to thank everybody for their participation and for being an early adopter of Wittygraphy.

Multi Currencies Support

We are now supporting foreign currencies. You no longer need to stick with US dollar and may specify your rates in the following currencies: Argentine Peso (ARS), Australian Dollar (AUD), Brazilian Real (BRL), British Pound (GBP), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Euro (EUR), Japanese Yen (JPY), Indian Rupee (INR), Mexican Peso (MXN), and Russian Ruble (RUB) and American Dollar (USD).

Customers will be paying in the designated currency. Currency conversion fee may be charged by the payment processor (e.g. PayPal) selected by the customer and caricaturist.

For members having existing rates, the currenry has been set to your local currency or to USD (to the best of our knowledge). Please review your rates and make necessary adjustments to fit your need. Thank you.

Monthly Drawing Contests

We are now organizing monthly drawing contests to foster more bonding within our community. Every month a celebrity get chosen for caricaturists to draw and the community votes for their favorite submitted caricatures.

The rules:

* Everyone can enroll into the contest by submitting a caricature
* One entry per person
* Caricature done in the past may be submitted
* Contestants are allowed to vote for their own caricatures
* Submission is closed at the end of the month
* Members has the following month to vote for their favorites
* The winner is the one with most votes by the end of the voting process

To submit a caricature, simply go to the caricature and click on "Submit to Contest" as shown here. That caricature will be enrolled into the active contest. Simple huh?

Spam Message Control

We are sorry for the spam messages you recently received. Spam is one of the most common and annoying problems on the internet. Like other websites, we are not immune to this problem but we have decided to step up our spam control policy hoping to provide a better experience for the community.

Effective immediately, we have set a limit of a number of messages that can be sent within a given time span. If an user sends too many messages during that time window, a verification is required as shown below:

While this would not totally eliminate spam messages, we hope it will discourage spammers from abusing our message system. If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or problem with this new feature, please share your thoughts by commenting on this blog post.

New My Settings with Email Notifications Tuning

We redesigned the My Settings section to better organize the information collected. Please take a moment to fill in your information if you haven't done so. Some information collected is used to better optimize your profile for search queries on Wittygraphy as well as on major search engines. Some information is used to put you in touch with customers in your area.

In addition, we now allow you to tune the level of automated emails received from Wittygraphy. Some emails may be turned off if you choose to in the Email Notification section.

Portfolio Slideshow

For those of you who wants to browse thru the portfolio quickly, we just added a slideshow.

Click on the "View Slideshow" in the control box to bring up the first picture in the portfolio. Mouse over the picture to go to the next or previous picture. It's that simple.

The new Shout Box

We just added the Shout Box. It's a new way to broadcast messages to the entire community. Please use it for messages that would be relevant to everyone. The new shouts are shown on the home page and the log of shouts are shown on this Shout Box page. One can send a new shout or respond a shout. Responds are grouped for easier reading.

The Shout Box is halfway from the top on the right side.

Click on the "More" action in the Shout Box takes you to the Shout Box page below where you can add shouts or reply to someone.

1000 Caricatures Posted by the Community

At 4:11PM today, Inkwell from North Ireland posted the 1000th caricatures (http://www.wittygraphy.com/picture/view/1001224). We would like to take a moment to thank all our members for their participation.

We are very very very excited and proud about this milestone as it exemplifies the strong support of the caricaturists’ community to Wittygraphy. Not only we met a major milestone, but we went from 500 to 1000 caricatures in just 33 day. That is an awesome amount of caricatures posted in a just a month and that was only possible due to everyone’s continued support and enthusiasm.

Big THANKS to all of you and please keep posting. Together we can make Wittygraphy the best caricature destination on the web.

We have just added a shortcut for those of you with a Twitter account. To post a caricature to Twitter, simply click on the Twitter icon as highlighted in the picture below and a new window will pop up taking you to Twitter containing a small link pointing back to the current caricature. The small link is a mini version of Direct Link to save on the length of the message. You could also use this small link in any other application as it is equivalent to the Direct Link (which is prefered if space is not a constraint)

The Jerusalem Post wrote a nice article about how Wittygraphy helps to monetize caricaturists' time. Here are a couple of interesting points.

What do most people do when faced with an otherwise boring situation? That's right - they doodle. After so many years of drawing caricatures (going back to your third-grade teacher and right up to your boss), you've probably gotten very good at it. Well, don't let your time - and talent - go to waste. Upload those doodles and caricatures to Wittygraphy.

Considering that most of the free e-card sites feature the same-old same-old, the caricatures from Wittygraphy may be just the thing you need to spice up your message.

We are happy to announce the new blogging feature. You can now describe your work in progress, your recent trip to a caricature conference, or tell others what technique you recently learned. Write as much as you want.

Changes to the Friends system

Per popular demand, we are changing the Friends system. Previously one can always add any member as a friend but the relationship doesn't have to be reciprocal. Going forward when one adds another member as a friend, a request will be emailed and needs the other party to approve for the relationship to establish. The new created relationship is bi-directional, meaning both would be friends of each other.

If you currently have bi-directional friendships, they will stay put. For one-directional friendships, a friendship request is generated by the system on your behalf. Once approved you will have a new friend.

Beta Launch

We launched back in Oct-08 in Beta mode. We welcome all caricaturists to join our community. Before opening the website to the general public, our goal for the first phase is to build a large directory of caricaturists and their portfolios. The best yellow book of caricaturists if you wish. Then we will work on bringing more caricature fans and buyers to allow caricaturists to share, promote and sell their service into their fan base.
